The top grossing iPhone medical apps


With the rollout of iTunes 9, Apple finally adds a “Top Grossing Apps” section to its App Store. This lists the apps that have made the most money. A quick look at its current Top 10 reveals that this includes apps with prices ranging from 99 cents to $99.99. This gives higher-priced programs a chance to gain iTunes front page exposure just like their more popular lower-priced brethren, which can easily make the Top Paid Apps charts. In the new list, a 99-cent app bought by 101 customers will rank the same as a single purchase of the $99.99 Tom-Tom navigation app.

Brian Dolan at Mobihealthnews went over the 200 Top Grossing chart and discovered that eight of these were “medical” apps. I put that word in quotation marks because only a couple are targeted at the medical professional; the others were health and fitness apps. Netter’s Anatomy, LexiComplete, workout guides, and a bunch of calorie trackers made the cut.
